The Buttafly for back and pelvic pain.
If there was ever a great example of perseverance, dedication and sheer commitment, it’s my good friend Loulou James. Some years back she invented this ‘deceptively innocent looking foam block’, as described by Wendy Powell, founder of MUTU.
On Loulou’s website you’ll find all the information you need, plus here’s a helpful little promo code to get yours. Enter SK00122 at checkout.

I’ve been using mine for a few months for myself and also for clients. My lower back pain is non-existent but to say that’s all the Buttafly does would not do it justice. Loulou runs selfcare retreat and also training for bodyworkers and practitioners and in June 2022, I was lucky enough to take part in both.
How does the Buttafly work?
Essentially, the Buttafly Technique refers to the strategic positioning of the Buttafly in supine lying so that the sacrum and coccyx are left free from any direct pressure.
The unique way in which the body is both supported and off-loaded facilitates a natural release of the spine.
As long as the Buttafly is placed correctly and a satisfactory level of safety and comfort is achieved, it works every time.
It’s how Loulou cured her own back problems after fracturing her spine in a roller-blading accident. Since then, she’s gone on to use it with the majority of her clients and finds that pretty much everyone benefits from having their “postural slate wiped clean”.
Since June, I’ve been offering 1 hour treatments to help with postural correction which includes assessment, treatment and homecare advice. I’ve also incorporated the Buttafly into my Mizan sessions.
Lying on the Buttafly regularly helps to create ‘space’ in the pelvis and is a great compliment to the therapy, encouraging pelvic realignment whilst easing pressure from the coccyx and sacrum
I only met Loulou James a couple of years ago but she’s already a great friend, a respected expert and a lifelong mentor. I’ll be continuing to support her work and hope that in the near future, I can host her Selfcare Retreats for my clients
